Nerves are unable to regenerate, which is why spinal cord injuries that lead to paralysis are permanent. Because of this, the portion of nerve that is removed in surgery for a Morton's neuroma does not heal together or regenerate.
Can you get Morton's neuroma twice?
In the majority of Morton's neuroma cases, only one nerve is affected. It's uncommon to find two neuromas in the same foot or even neuromas in both feet; only around 10-15% of patients have bilateral Morton's neuroma. However, these do sometimes occur.
Can neuromas recur?
A painful condition that is sometimes referred to as a nerve tumor or pinched nerve, a neuroma is a benign tissue growth that is often located between the third and fourth toes. Neuromas are more common in women than in men and can be a recurring problem.
