Male Gametogenesis (Spermatogenesis)
In males, gametogenesis begins at puberty and continues into advanced age. Primordial germ cells (46,2N) migrate into the testes at week 4 of development and remain dormant. At puberty, primordial germ cells differentiate into type A spermatogonia (46,2N).
At which stage of life does gametogenesis begin?
Process of gamete formation is called gametogenesis. In female production of ovum in ovary through oogenesis is initiated at embryonic stage in fetal ovary. No more ovum is added after birth. In male spermatogenesis is initiated in the male testis with the beginning of puberty.
At what age does spermatogenesis begin?
Males start producing sperm when they reach puberty, which is usually from 10-16 years old.
