Coyotes are opportunistic omnivores, eating whatever is available. They are hunters and scavengers that eat anything from mice, rabbits and squirrels to frogs, lizards, fish, fruit and carrion.
Where do coyotes take their prey?
If they need to bring prey to their mate or pups, they will usually consume the edible parts, carry the food in their stomach, and then regurgitate it at the den or rendezvous site. If they don't need to share their food, uneaten prey remains are more likely to be cached (buried) for later consumption.
Where do coyotes sleep during the day?
Coyotes are most active at dusk and dawn because this is when their prey is most active. Coyotes only live in dens while they are rearing their pups. Otherwise, they sleep on open ground or in tall grasses.
