Police are warning about a BT broadband scam. Officers said there have been a number of reports of people receiving an automated message via their landline claiming their broadband security has been compromised. The message suggests that the account will be terminated if the user doesn't take action.

YES! These are scam calls and they are not from BT. They are designed to make your heart race and get you panicking so that you will give out information. The best thing you can do is remain silent and put the phone down but even if you have given out information do not worry we will tell you what to do.

A BT spokesman said: “We will never call or email a customer to ask for remote access to their computer, or ask for personal information (including bank details) unexpectedly. ... "If a customer thinks they may have fallen victim to a scam, they should report it to Action Fraud.
