To calibrate an infrared pyrometer
infrared pyrometer
Infrared (IR) thermometers are useful in measuring temperature across a range of industrial and clinical environments. These non-contact temperature measurement devices function well in circumstances where the object is fragile and dangerous to get near to, or when other kinds of thermometers are not practical.
, the pyrometer makes a measurement of the the target plate. The controlled temperature of the plate is compared with the pyrometer reading. The pyrometer is then adjusted until the the difference is minimal. The high emissivity of the target plate minimizes emissivity errors.
How often should a pyrometer be calibrated?
If it is a process within a heavy industry, calibration may have to be carried out every six months, especially if the quality of the product is temperature-critical. Conversely, if the instrument is operating in laboratory-type conditions, it may be a longer duration.
How do you calibrate a temp reader?
HOT CALIBRATION METHOD
Boil tap water and pour into a suitable container (e.g. a mug or beaker).
Place the probe into the container.
Check that the temperature is between 99°C and 101°C (210°F to 214°F).
If the temperature is not correct, adjust your thermometer to the correct temperature while it is still in the water.
