Is a Soakaway Required?

Why use a soakaway? Building Regulations require you to adequately dispose of stormwater from the building. To try and ensure water is dispersed into the ground evenly and quickly you must consider the use of a soakaway in all cases. You must use a soakaway if design criteria can be met.

Why would you need a soakaway?

The purpose of a soakaway is to temporarily store rainwater that would otherwise cause a flash flood during heavy rainfall. The rainwater soakaway is as hollow as possible so it can hold the maximum amount of water without collapsing in on itself.

Does a patio need a soakaway?

Soakaways are designed to cope with large amounts of surface and roof rainwater, without them our homes and neighbourhoods would experience flash floods whenever it rained. The rainwater from roof gutters, patios and driveways should ideally be directed towards a soakaway within the boundary of the property.
