The main hosts of this parasitic wasp are the large white butterfly (Pieris brassicae) and the gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar). The larvae feed on the hosts that have been through parasitisation one example of which is the tomato moth, Lacanobia oleracea. On the other hand, adults mainly feed on flowers.
What do ichneumonidae feed on?
Adult ichneumon drink nectar from flowers if they eat at all. The larvae are the true consumers. All ichneumon wasps are parasites who deposit their eggs on or near the young of other insects and spiders. Once the eggs hatch, they feed on the unsuspecting host larvae until reaching the dormant pupate stage.
What do Netelia wasps eat?
The wasp larva feeds on the caterpillar as an external parasite. Parasites that do not arrest the development of their host, but allow it to grow normally instead, are called “koinobionts.” Netelia ichneumons are placed in this category.
