As a FERS Employee, you may be eligible to receive the FERS Supplement. The Supplement is additional, monthly, fixed income. It begins at your retirement and lasts until you have reached age 62. At age 62 you first become eligible to receive social security benefits so the Supplement will stop.

How long does it take to get FERS supplement?

Once OPM has processed your entire application then they will back pay you for anything they missed and will start paying you your full pension amount as well as your FERS supplement if you are eligible. It is not unusual for this process to take 6-12 months.

When should I expect my first FERS annuity payment?

OPM tries to authorize interim payments within 10 days after it receives your retirement package. The ideal schedule would have you receiving your first interim payment within three to four weeks after you retire, in an amount of about 80 percent of a rough estimate of your actual entitlement.
