Rug burn is usually minor and heals on its own within a week without scarring. Depending on the severity of rug burn, however, the injury may leave a permanent scar or slight discoloration.
How long do carpet burn scars last?
Scar healing can take a long time. Scarring usually develops within the first few months after the burn, peaks around 6 months and will resolve or “mature” in 12-18 months. As scars mature they fade in color, become flatter, softer and generally less sensitive.
How do you know if a burn will scar?
While there is not a definite answer, typically, the greater the severity of the burn, the greater the chances that a scar will be present. For example, less severe burns known as first-degree burns, take less than ten days to heal. Most of the time, first degree burns have no scarring.
