Quadrat sampling involves counting all individuals within a known area (or volume). Since density (D) and population size (N) are related, as N = D x area, we can estimate the density for the sample and from this compute the total population. This assumes that the area the population occupies is finite and known.
How do you calculate plant species using quadrat method?
Fix four nails in the form of a square. Each end of the nail is tied with the help of a thread making a 1m*1m quadrant. Nine more similar quadrants are made at the site of the study. The number of individuals of the species A present in the first quadrant is counted and the data is recorded in the table.
How do you calculate population size using Quadrats?
After you've made your 10 quadrats, find the average of the number of whatever organism whose population you want to find the number of. Then, divide the square area of the entire park by the square area of one your quadrats.
