Where Do Goannas Live?

Goannas are found throughout most of Australia and manage to persist in a variety of environments. Most species are terrestrial, or ground dwelling. Prominent among these is the Sand goanna (Varanus gouldii – also known as the ground goanna or Gould's goanna), the most common of all goannas.

Where do goannas sleep?

Many ground-dwelling species dig extensive burrows in which they can shelter. Some species hibernate in burrows during the coldest months of the year (between May and August). Goannas tend to be solitary outside of the mating season.

Tree Goannas are found along the east coast of Australia. They live in a range of habitats including open forest and coastal plains.
