How to Propagate Coprosma Repens
- Sow seeds in the spring using a cold frame.
- If the seeds are fresh, they may take up to 12 months to germinate.
- For best results, allow the seeds to ripen.
- The plant also needs protection during the first winter.
- If a cold frame isn't an option, grow them indoors or in a greenhouse.
How do you take cuttings from Coprosma?
They need to be pruned to shape when necessary - the best time is probably late winter before new growth begins. After a while, the stems touching the ground may layer - a good way to propagate it! I sometimes find the plants suffer from a degree of dieback on the ends of the stems - I usually just cut this off.
How do you propagate a mirror plant?
Mirror bush spreads by seed which is dispersed by birds, animals and garden waste dumping. This species also reproduces vegetatively by self- layering, where lower branches take root. Mirror bush grows in coastal environs (sand dunes and headlands), heathlands, open woodlands, roadsides and disturbed sites.
