In warm weather, the granary weevil can develop from egg to adult in about five weeks. Cold weather prolongs development. The granary weevil cannot fly and so is most likely to be found where grain is stored, and moves with infested grain.
Do weevils jump or fly?
Partly because of its long life and partly because of its ability to fly, the rice weevil is considered to be the most destructive, but all three weevils can cause extensive damage to stored foods. When they infest grain that is stored in bins and remains undisturbed, they can completely destroy the food.
Do weevils fly?
The granary weevil does not fly while the rice weevil is an active flier. It often flies to grain storage bins and buildings from nearby fields and from one end of a warehouse to the other.
