A character can take more than one archetype (sometimes called “stacking” archetypes) and garner additional alternate class features, but none of the alternate class features can replace or alter the same class feature from the base class as another alternate class feature.
How many archetypes can you have?
Twelve archetypes have been proposed for use with branding: Sage, Innocent, Explorer, Ruler, Creator, Caregiver, Magician, Hero, Outlaw, Lover, Jester, and Regular Person.
Do you have to pick an archetype Pathfinder?
Not necessarily. Not all abilities are equal, so even if you gain more, you might be losing out overall if those abilities aren't as good as the ones you're losing, or if they're ones you won't use.
