Just like snakes, a lizard sticks out its tongue to catch scent particles in the air and then pulls back its tongue and places those particles on the roof of its mouth, where there are special sensory cells. The lizard can use these scent “clues” to find food or a mate or to detect enemies.
How do lizards hunt?
Lizards use two basic foraging techniques. In the first approach, aptly dubbed sit-and-wait, lizards spend most of their time perched in one location waiting for their prey to pass. Then, with a quick burst of speed, they run after their prey, snatching it up with their tongues.
How do lizards eat their food?
Food is crushed in their jaws, then swallowed with little chewing. Habitat: Many lizards live in deserts, but others live in temperate forests, rainforests, prairies, marshes and streams, subterranean burrows, or rocky outcrops. However most lizards live on the ground or in trees.
