Mechanical keyboards were a standard feature of many early PCs. Early IBM PCs were known for the Model M keyboard, with keys that offered a famously satisfying response and audible “clack” as they were depressed.
Did keyboards used to be mechanical?
Short answer: This was a bit of a trick question, as the first mechanical keyboard was patented all the way back in 1714, by Henry Mill. Not much was known about this early typewriter though. It would become the typewriter that became the ubiquitous Remington, dating from 1867.
Are mechanical keyboards the same as old keyboards?
quite simply it depends on your definition of better. the older keyboard make a satisfying click sound. the switch used under the key has a better tactile feel than a membrane keyboard. there are companies that still repair the old IBM mech keyboards.
