Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina that can result in discharge, itching and pain. The cause is usually a change in the normal balance of vaginal bacteria or an infection. Reduced estrogen levels after menopause and some skin disorders can also cause vaginitis.
Does bacterial vaginosis cause itching?
Symptoms - The primary symptom of BV is an abnormal, odorous vaginal discharge. The fish-like odor is noticeable especially after intercourse. Women with BV also may have burning during urination or itching around the outside of the vagina, or both.
How can I stop BV itching at home?
This includes:
- Keeping your child's fingernails cut short.
- Dressing your child in loose, light, cotton clothing.
- Not letting her get overheated since sweating will likely make her itch more.
- Taking cool or lukewarm showers or baths and avoiding hot water.
- Keeping her distracted.
- Not allowing her skin to get overly dry.
