Testosterone is produced in the ovaries and adrenal gland. It's one of several androgens (male sex hormones) in females.
What triggers testosterone production?
Luteinizing hormone (LH) stimulates testosterone production. If too much testosterone is produced, the hypothalamus alerts the pituitary gland to make less LH, which tells the testes to decrease testosterone levels.
Where are sperm and testosterone produced?
The testes are responsible for making testosterone, the primary male sex hormone, and for producing sperm. Within the testes are coiled masses of tubes called seminiferous tubules. These tubules are responsible for producing the sperm cells through a process called spermatogenesis.
