The rotation of a clock's hands is the reference for defining rotational direction. Counterclockwise is the positive rotation direction and clockwise is the negative direction. For example, a torque that rotates an object counterclockwise is a positive torque (see figure 6 below).
Is clockwise direction positive?
This is a positive rotation direction. Clockwise means moving in the direction of the hands of a clock. Anticlockwise is a direction opposite to that of the normal rotation of the hands of a clock. Anticlockwise is also called counter-clockwise.
Is clockwise considered negative?
Clockwise moments are considered negative when summed with counterclockwise moments because they are opposites of each other, but also because counterclockwise moments are positive since when acting upon an object, they move the object up on the Y-Axis.
