One of the largest Borscht Belt resorts, it was a kosher establishment that catered primarily to Jewish clients from New York City. After decades of activity and notable guests, it closed in 1986. The resort buildings were demolished in 2018.

After Jennie died in 1972, the resort started to fall into decline. With guests choosing to fly elsewhere for the summer, the hotel closed it's doors for the last time in 1986. Since then it has been left to gradually fall into ruin.

In the golden days of the 1950s, when Sullivan County was home to 538 hotels, 50,000 bungalows and 1,000 rooming houses, Grossinger's Resort was perhaps the most renowned of them all. It famously provided inspiration for the movie “Dirty Dancing,” but has remained empty after closing in 1986 and left to crumble.
