Linear transducers measure linear displacement or movement along a single axis in any direction. They do this by converting the movement into an electrical signal which is proportional to the displacement so that it can be processed by various devices.
How does a linear transducer work?
In an linear transducer any movement of the core causes a proportional change in output. The LVDT thus has theoretically infinite resolution: in practice, resolution is limited only by the external output electronics and the physical suspensions. Because it is a transformer, the LVDT requires an ac drive signal.
What is linear position?
Linear position sensors are devices that connect to an object or piece of machinery and convert the linear displacement of the object into an electrical signal that is proportional to the object's displacement.
