Early Glasses
The first wearable glasses known to history appeared in Italy during the 13th century. Primitive glass-blown lenses were set into wooden or leather frames (or occasionally, frames made from animal horn) and then held before the face or perched on the nose.

According to some sources the invention of the first wearable pair of eyeglasses occurred in the 13th century in Italy. Salvino D'Armate probably invented eyeglasses in around 1285, though various sources suggest an earlier origin.
Did glasses exist in the 1500s?
The 15th century marks a crucial time in the development of spectacles. By the time of Johann Gutenberg's invention of the printing press around 1450, glasses were already used by artisans as well as monks and other religious scholars.
