Q: How do they work? A: They work because hot air rises! Your cooling fan pushes the hot air out through the Hood Louvers. Before the cool air can come into your engine compartment, the hot air must go out.

Do hood louvers help?

The louvers, in the correct location, will help direct the flow of air easily through the radiator and then eject as much as possible outside of the hood. Your numbers are normal. But, hood louvers will assist you by perhaps lowering the peak load temps. It will at least allow you to keep it from getting hotter.

Are hood vents effective?

Unvented range hoods do filter some grease and cooking odors from the air, but the general consensus is that they're nowhere near as effective.
