Adding comets in Stellarium
Luckily there is the great free open source program Stellarium and the ability to add objects like comets to it so we can actually check on the location at any date, time and location! Go to 'Solar System' and click on “Import orbital elements in MPC format”.
How do you add a comet to Stellarium?
Adding Comet NEOWISE to Stellarium
- Click the Configuration button. (Or just press F2).
- Click the Plug-Ins Tab.
- Click the Configure Button.
- Click the Import orbital elements in MPC format… Button at the bottom of this window.
- Click Add Objects.
Where is Neowise right now?
Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) is currently in the constellation of Hydra. The current Right Ascension is 14h 52m 11s and the Declination is -25° 21' 50”.
