'Prefabs' were temporary homes built in the factory at the close of the Second World War. They were built to rehouse those who had lost their homes during the Blitz or servicemen coming back from the war and their young families.
Why is prefabrication important?
In many instances, prefabrication takes less than half the time when compared to traditional construction. This is due to better upfront planning, elimination of on-site weather factors, subcontractor scheduling delays and quicker fabrication as multiple pieces can be constructed simultaneously.
Why are prefabs bad?
Along with the advantages, there are a few drawbacks of prefabricated houses too. The prefab home is not as durable as a traditional concrete house. It is a common notion that the shipping of the modules leads to diminution of the structure stability. These houses cannot endure tornadoes and heavy storms.
