Many of the seed-eating larks join together in large flocks. With the exception of mating season, when some species occasionally sing at night, larks are active during the daytime (diurnal) and sleep at night in shallow depressions they carve into the ground with their claws.
What time of day does the lark sing?
Songs. Horned Larks sing a delicate, musical song particularly in the early morning as early as an hour and a half before sunrise.
What noise does a lark make?
Male Lark Sparrows sing a melodious jumble of clear notes and trills interspersed with harsh buzzes and churrs. The song generally starts with a short buzz followed by 1–3 clear notes, then a few notes at a lower pitch, and finally a clear trill; they often switch up the order of the notes.
