One of the most common symptoms of poor circulation is numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. When something is restricting the flow of blood, and blood cannot reach the extremities in sufficient quantities, a person may also have a sensation of pins and needles.
What happens when blood is not circulating?
Along with your heart and other muscles, they make up your circulatory system. This network of roadways carries blood to every corner of your body. But when your circulation is poor, it slows or blocks the blood flow. That means the cells in your body can't get all the oxygen and nutrients they need.
How does your blood stop circulating?
As the arteries harden, a substance called plaque builds up within the arterial walls, narrowing them. Left untreated, this can reduce or even stop blood flow to a limb, leading to tissue death and possibly amputation.
