Around 500 B.C., the first known domestic filter appeared when the Greek scientist Hippocrates invented the so-called Hippocratic sleeve, which consisted of a simple cloth back filter. During the third and fourth Century, the Egyptians purified their drinking water using a variety of methods.
Who made the first water filtration system?
Centuries later, Hippocrates, the famed father of medicine, began to conduct his own experiments in water purification. Hippocrates designed his own crude water filter to “purify” the water he used for his patients.
Why was water filtration created?
The Fine China Connection. It's thought that as far back as 1827 John Doulton and his son Henry, (of English fine china and pottery fame) invented the ceramic water filter to remove bacteria from drinking water.
