Two Lovers Point is prominent cape and seaside cliff in Tamuning, Guam, that overlooks northern Tumon Bay and the Philippine Sea. One of four National Natural Landmarks on Guam, it is closely associated with the folktale of two doomed lovers and is a major tourist attraction.
Why is it called Two Lovers Point?
The cape was named by the Spanish, Cabo de los Amantes (Lovers' Cape), now known as Puntan Dos Amantes (Two Lover's Point). After visiting Guam in 1819 Freycinet used the two lover's story to emphasize the indelible connection between marriage and the traditional caste system in Chamorro society.
When did the two lovers point happen?
In a story that begins as tragically as the original legend, in December 2002, the raging winds of Super Typhoon Pongsona toppled the beloved statue of the two lovers to the ground, damaging it so extensively that it was believed to be beyond repair.
