How Manga Is Read?

Traditionally, manga stories are read from right to left and from top to bottom, in the same way as Japanese writing. The narrative is contained within frames called koma. So, to read a page of manga, you start with the koma in the top right-hand corner and you end with the koma in the bottom left-hand corner.

How do you read a manga for beginners?

Like the pages of manga, individual panels should be read in a right to left sequence. Start reading each page by beginning with the panel that is in the upper right hand corner of the page. Read right to left and when you reach the edge of the page, go to the panel in the far-right of the following row of panels.

Does manga have to be read in order?

All traditional Japanese manga reads from right to left, the reverse of English, which reads from left to right. In original manga-style books, the action, the word bubbles, and sound effects are all written in this direction.
