Desmopressin (DDAVP) is a synthetic form of vasopressin hormone, a chemical made by the pituitary gland. It works on the kidneys to decrease the amount of urine made. DDAVP can help decrease bedwetting in children. This medicine may be used alone or with other methods to prevent bedwetting.

Desmopressin. A synthetic analog of arginine vasopressin, desmopressin works by decreasing urine volume at night and by decreasing intravesicular pressure. The drug comes in a nasal spray or tablet. Treatment using the nasal spray is initiated with 10 mcg given at bedtime, one half of the dose in each nostril.
How long before bed should you take desmopressin?
If you were switched from desmopressin nasal spray to desmopressin tablets, wait at least 12 hours after your last nasal dose before you take your first tablet. Take the sublingual tablet 1 hour before bedtime.
