Lexiscan was eligible for patent challenges on April 10, 2012. By analyzing the patents and regulatory protections it appears that the earliest date for generic entry will be February 2, 2027. This may change due to patent challenges or generic licensing.
Is lexiscan generic?
No. There is currently no therapeutically equivalent version of Lexiscan available in the United States. Note: Fraudulent online pharmacies may attempt to sell an illegal generic version of Lexiscan. These medications may be counterfeit and potentially unsafe.
How long does it take for medication to become generic?
Generic drugs do not need to contain the same inactive ingredients as the brand name product. However, a generic drug can only be marketed after the brand name drug's patent has expired, which may take up to 20 years after the patent holder's drug is first filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
