During the test, tiny "markers" are used to show how long it takes for food to move through your intestines. The markers will not change as they pass through the body. No barium or plastic stays in the body. The markers will dissolve in your body.

How do I prepare for Sitz marker test?

You will not be able to take a laxative during the days you are doing the test. You should also not take any laxatives for two days before this exam. There should be no bowel preparation/colon cleansing before this exam. You can take a fiber supplement product containing psyllium such as Metamucil or Benefiber.

How do Sitz markers work?

This capsule contains tiny markers which will show up on X-rays and let the doctors track their progress through your intestines. You will be asked to make an appointment for you abdominal X-ray five days after you take the capsule. If your doctor gave you an order, please bring it with you.
