Bleaching, especially with chemical solutions, only works on white linen fabric. Bleaching is never recommended for colored linen. White linen textiles can only be bleached with chemical solutions that are chlorine-free. Stains from linen fabrics should be removed immediately before allowing them to dry.
Does linen bleach well?
Although linen is a natural fiber, mostly made of cellulose, and can withstand hypochlorite bleach (ordinary chlorine bleach) as well as any other fiber, this chemical is quite toxic and damaging. If you use too much, you may cause the fabric to fall apart or to show wear surprisingly quickly.
Can you bleach white linen sheets?
While we don't generally recommend bleaching linen fabric or garments, there might be a time when your white linens need a refresh. Bleach should never be used on dark linens as it will remove all the coloured dye and you'll be left with a white patch.
