People with osteoporosis most often break bones in the upper (thoracic) spine. When these bones break, they can cause pain, height loss and stooped or hunched posture, called kyphosis.
Does osteoporosis cause the spine to bend?
If left undiagnosed and untreated, osteoporosis can predispose you to sudden and painful spinal compression fractures. Such fractures may result in an overall loss in height. Those spinal compression fractures may also cause the upper spine to curve forward. This forward curve is called kyphosis.
Why would a woman with osteoporosis become hunched as she grows older?
People with osteoporosis most experience damage of bones in the upper (thoracic) spine. These bones break causing back pain, loss in height and a stooped or hunched posture, called kyphosis.
