Missed Miscarriage: Women can experience a miscarriage without knowing it. A missed miscarriage is when embryonic death has occurred but there is not any expulsion of the embryo. It is not known why this occurs.
Could I be having a miscarriage without knowing I was pregnant?
Often, a woman can have an extra heavy menstrual flow and not realize it's a miscarriage because she hadn't known she was pregnant. Some women who miscarry have cramping, spotting, heavier bleeding, abdominal pain, pelvic pain, weakness, or back pain. Spotting does not always mean a miscarriage.
Can you randomly miscarry?
This happens at random, so you can't prevent it or cause it to happen. Certain illnesses, like severe diabetes, can increase your chances of having a miscarriage. A very serious infection or a major injury may cause miscarriage. Late miscarriages — after 3 months — may be caused by abnormalities in the uterus.
