All insects have six legs, three body segments, antennae, and an exoskeleton. Insects don't have bones. Instead, they have hard shells called exoskeletons. Like a little suit of armor, an exoskeleton protects the insect's body and also keeps it from drying out.
Can insects feel pain?
Over 15 years ago, researchers found that insects, and fruit flies in particular, feel something akin to acute pain called “nociception.” When they encounter extreme heat, cold or physically harmful stimuli, they react, much in the same way humans react to pain.
Do insects have hearts?
Insects do have hearts that pump the hemolymph throughout their circulatory systems. Though these hearts are quite different from vertebrate hearts, some of the genes that direct heart development in the two groups are in fact very similar.
