- Type vi filename.txt into Terminal.
- Press ↵ Enter .
- Press your computer’s i key.
- Enter your document’s text.
- Press the Esc key.
- Type :w into Terminal and press ↵ Enter .
- Type :q into Terminal and press ↵ Enter .
- Reopen the file from the Terminal window.
