Just to answer your question, you can usually flash the same or newer versions, also older ones afaik, but never tried to go down a version.
How many times can BIOS be flashed?
The limit is inherent to the media, which in this case I’m referring to the EEPROM chips. There’s a maximum guaranteed number of times you can write to those chips before you can expect failures. I think with the current style of 1MB and 2MB and 4MB EEPROM chips, the limit is on the order of 10,000 times.
How do I flash a previous version of BIOS?
To perform a BIOS update to the same or earlier BIOS level, the user may need to change BIOS settings as follows:
- Power ON the system.
- Press the F1 key to enter the Lenovo BIOS Setup Utility and select “Security”.
- Ensure the setting on “Allow Flashing BIOS to a Previous Version” is set to “Yes”.
