RAID 1 and RAID 10 are both mirroring technologies that use half of their available drives for data, but the main difference between them is the number of available drives.
What RAID is mirrored drives?
What is RAID and what are the different RAID modes?
| RAID mode | Description |
|---|---|
| RAID 1 | Mirrored disks |
| RAID 3 | Striped set with dedicated parity |
| RAID 5 | Striped disks with distributed parity |
| RAID 10 | 1+0; Striped set of Mirrored Subset |
How does RAID 1 work?
RAID 1 – This level is also called ‘mirroring’, which (as the name suggests) mirrors the same data across two disks – providing the lowest level of RAID redundancy. This level offers up to double the read performance over a single drive, but no increase in write speed.
