What does mnt directory contain?
This directory usually contains mount points or sub-directories where you mount your floppy and your CD. You can also create additional mount-points here if you wish. Standard mount points would include /mnt/cdrom and /mnt/floppy.
Should I use MNT or media?
Technically, there is no functional difference whatsoever between the two. /mnt is a standard directory, as is /media/… The difference is in what they should be used for, emphasis on should. /media is supposed to be the mount point for removable media while /mnt is for temporary mounts initiated by the user.
