Do we say Selichot on Shabbat?

In some congregations the shofar is sounded at the opening of each Kabbalat Shabbat service during Elul. Selichot (special penitential prayers) are recited during the month of Elul. A special Selichot service is conducted late in the evening – often by candlelight – on the Saturday night a week before Rosh HaShanah.

When can you say Selichot?

Selichot are usually recited between midnight and dawn. Some recite it at night after the Maariv prayer, or in the morning before the Shacharit prayer, due to the convenience of synagogue attendance when a prayer is already taking place there.
