Orlistat comes as a capsule and a nonprescription capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken three times a day with each main meal that contains fat. Take orlistat during a meal or up to 1 hour after a meal. If a meal is missed or does not have fat, you may skip your dose.
How do I get the best results from orlistat?
Eat regularly, don't skip meals. You will need to take one Orlistat three times per day immediately before, during, or up to 1 hour following a meal. Cut down on portion sizes. Serve less at meal times by using a smaller plate, for example a tea plate, or give yourself a couple of spoonfuls less at each meal.
What happens if you take orlistat without eating?
If there is no fat in one of your meals, or if you miss a meal, there is no need for you to take a dose of orlistat. Common side-effects include wind, loose stools and back passage (rectal) spotting, particularly at the beginning of treatment.
