A. Sandblasting, it's going to be the easiest and safest way to remove the chrome with minimal pitting and material removal. If you don't have sandblasting gear, check with your local welding shops and see if they can help you out.
Can you sandblast chrome off metal?
You need to sand blast them or at least rough them up. The powdercoat shop will sand blast them to roughen them up so the powercoat will stick. Chrome is metal; you don't have to remove it, just roughen it up for paint or powdercoat to stick to it.

Sand the chrome with the 220-grit sandpaper. The rough sandpaper should remove the majority of the chrome. Move up to the 300-grit sandpaper and then the 1,200-grit sandpaper, applying more polish as you continue sanding. Sand the surface until all of the chrome is stripped off.
