1900 Muesli invented in Switzerland
Swiss doctor Maximilian Bircher-Benner invented muesli at his health clinic. He called it the “apple diet dish” or Apfeldiätspeise. The name muesli appeared later and is derived from an old German word for “puree”.

When we think of Switzerland, we often think of muesli. But just how did its pioneering inventor Dr Bircher-Benner capture the culinary zeitgeist of the early 20th Century?
Why muesli is bad for you?
6. Muesli with added sugar. Most people naturally believe muesli to be healthy, and it does have a lot to commend it, but if you don't check that you're buying one with no added sugar or salt it can contain almost as much sugar as a bowl of frosted flakes.
