What Is Hard Marble?

Dolomite is a sedimentary rock made mostly from the mineral dolomite and it's also known as dolostone. Sometimes, showrooms will label Dolomite as “hard marble,” and the reason for this is because it is denser than marble. Dolomite is porous, though not as susceptible to staining, etching and cracking as marble.

What is the difference between marble and hard marble?

Granite and marble are metamorphic stones, hard rocks formed when sediment crystallized under great heat or pressure. Marble is softer and more porous than the nearly indestructible granite, and so it can etch (scratch) and stain in a way that granite usually won't.

Is hard marble durable?

Geologically speaking, it contains the mineral calcium carbonate, which is a defining feature of marble. However, it's an extremely hard marble with a very low risk of etching or staining. In other words, it behaves like a quartzite. Fantasy Brown Quartzite is a durable, reliable countertop choice.
