Most Miccosukee people live on the two Seminole reservations in Oklahoma and Florida. Each of these three tribes has its own government, laws, police, and services, just like a small country.
Where is the Miccosukee Tribe located?
The tribe today occupies several reservations in southern Florida, collectively known as the Miccosukee Indian Reservation. The largest land section is a 333-acre (1.35 km2) reservation on the northern border of Everglades National Park, about 45 miles (72 km) west of Miami.
Where did the Miccosukee Tribe live in Florida?
The Miccosukee stayed to themselves in the Everglades for about 100 years, resisting efforts to become assimilated. Then, after the Tamiami Trail highway was built in 1928, the Tribe began to accept the New World's concepts.
