Deroofing of a burn blister is a clinical procedure, which enables removal of the burn blister fluid and of the dead tissue. ☑ Cover cleaned burn wounds with loose longitudinal strips of Cling Film for all patients requiring prompt transfer to the local Burn Service.
Should you Deroof blisters?
But it's recommended that you should not burst any blisters yourself. If your burn has caused a blister, you should seek medical attention. The blister will probably remain intact, although some burns units at hospitals follow a policy of deroofing blisters.
Why do we Deroof blisters?
The accurate depth of wound identification can be achieved by a deroofing of the blisters that allow direct visualization of the wound bed. Correct identification of the wound depth is thus imperative because it is correlated with wound infection risk and leads to additional treatment decisions.
