Is Rationality an Emotion?

An emotion can also be rational or irrational in two more specific senses: (1) it can be more or less accurate in the perception or understanding of the situation it involves; and (2) it can be more or less warranted in its evaluation of the situation.

How are emotions related to rationality?

Incidental emotional states have a variety of rational and irrational influences on judgments, decisions, and behaviors. They influence people's reasoning processes, the accuracy of their beliefs, their ability to exert self-control, and their tendency to take risks. They are also often misattributed to target objects.

Is emotion the opposite of rationality?

My take: Studies like the one from the bank, and the decision quadrants from the Eisenburgs, can lead marketers to think that emotional decisions are not necessarily rational decisions. This is not niecessarily true. Emotional is not the opposite of rational.
