How to Control Leucaena?

How to Control Leucaena?

Control Methods
If used as a forage, grazing should be managed to prevent flowering and seed formation. There are no known mechanical controls for lead tree. Continuous cutting will eventually kill larger trees. Frequent mowing or grazing will kill smaller plants.

How do you kill Leucaena?

Herbicide will not only kill the tree fast, the method is also relatively less labour intensive than other effective controlling methods. There are different methods available to control the species chemically, the most common being basal-bark treatment, cut-stem treatment and foliar spray treatment.

Why is Leucaena invasive?

Selected species

Leucaena is listed as one of the world's 100 worst invasive alien species in the Global Invasive Species Database [26]. It was introduced to Fernando de Noronha as an alternative food supply source for livestock [24] because of its fast growth, drought tolerance and nitrogen assimilation capabilities.
